Friends of Harmoniemusik

Would you like to help Boxwood & Brass share the joy of Harmoniemusik with more people?

Founded in 2013, Boxwood & Brass is dedicated to communicating the sheer joy of Harmoniemusik to wider audiences. We've come a long way since our first concert in 2013, and no matter how big the venue, we’re always delighted to see the familiar faces of the friends we’ve gathered along the way.  The COVID-19 pandemic has brought fresh challenges, but we’re committed to finding ways to share our wonderful repertoire and the work of our brilliant players with listeners around the world.

Give the gift of your enthusiasm…

The most important way you can help us is by keeping in touch and spreading the word! Your continued engagement gives us the energy to keep going, and you are the best advertisement for our music. Joining our mailing list means we can contact you directly and be sure you’ve seen our news. It’s much better than social media follows: for instance, our Facebook posts sometimes only reach around 10% of our followers. Plus you’ll get exclusive offers related to our concerts, recordings and more.

Give the gift of your expertise…

As a small organisation with big ambitions, we welcome supporters offering professional services or consultancy relevant to our activities and development plans, and would be happy to discuss an appropriate form of acknowledgement. Practical support, such as accommodation offers and rehearsal spaces, is also very valuable to us. Contact us here.

If you think you might be able spare a little to support us financially, please keep reading…

Chamber music has never been an economically viable activity. Every concert we do relies on days of rehearsal, with attendant venue hire and travel costs, as well as hours of unpaid administration and sheet music preparation. Even this website costs us over £200/year! Ticket sales can never cover these expenses, which is why we are so grateful to our loyal supporters who donate towards our overheads.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, things are even harder for musicians – every cancelled concert means lost fees, and lost opportunities to sell our CDs (which we have to buy outright from our record label). The small music clubs and promoters we used to rely on are in hibernation or closing down. Venues running at limited capacity can’t afford to pay our usual concert fees.

We are committed to adapting to the ‘new normal’ by developing online material and promoting our own, small-scale concerts where we can. But the revenues from this are very hard to predict.

You can support us by making regular donations through our Friends of Harmoniemusik scheme. Small donations help cover our basic overheads such as web hosting, advertising and accountancy. Larger contributions can help us underwrite the financial risks of self-promoted concerts, and pay our players to create new online content. Times may be tough, but with your help we can keep the wind music flowing!
